COVID 19 UpdateDear Member
Following last night's announcements I write to update you on the position in respect of the national lockdown commencing on Tuesday 5th January (today).
Whilst the guidance published at the time of writing does not specifically mention water sports, AWA's interpretation of the rules is that these activities are classed as recreation and leisure. Additionally, they consider that they are likely to require participants to be away from their home for a long period and potentially encourage travel outside of the participant's local area. As such AWA has taken the decision to suspend water based activities for the duration of this current period of lockdown.
The Club grounds will be open for access to boats, boards and Club equipment for maintenance.
AWA will review developments and has undertaken to act on any substantial changes to the guidance.
This is not the New Year's message I had hoped to deliver, but you will appreciate we have little scope other than to comply with what is, given the circumstances, a reasonable policy. I trust you will understand and refrain from taking to the water.
The NSC risk assessment will be updated in due course and placed on the website in the other documents section.
I will advise you of any changes and developments as they arise. In the meantime please stay well and perhaps, like me try and focus on the reopening of our Club soon!
Regards - Tom Powell - Commodore NSC. 05/01/2021
