Steve Nicholson Memorial Trophy

Saturday 30th January saw Northampton Sailing Club stage the 16th Steve Nicholson Memorial Trophy event in aid of Asthma UK.

The day started quite wet with gusty conditions but by the time the briefing was taking place the sun had arrived and the wind was coming from the west of force 3-4.The event entry was restricted to 120 boats this year due to a number of factors, including the reservoir being full, restricting the amount of beach available to launch, and also the added pressure of getting all the boats washed after racing due to the Bio Security rules.
We reached 120 boats a week before the event and had a waiting list.

As the change to the format in 2015 was so successful, we decided to keep this exactly the same for 2016 which saw 63 Single Handed boats and 57 Double Handed taking part.

Winners of the Double handed fleet were Finlay Barnham and Jasper Barnham in their 2000.
Winner of the single handed fleet was Andy Couch, sailing his Phantom, who was also the overall winner of the Steve Nicholson Memorial Trophy.

The winner of the Graham Shelmed Memorial Trophy, awarded to the highest place NSC boat, this year goes to Will Gulliver for the 2nd year running. There was a great turnout of around 20 club boats who entered the event.

Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all the competitors who support the event year on year. Many thanks to all our sponsors particularly Pinnell & Bax, Harken UK and Gul for all the magnificent prizes. The event raised over £3000 for Asthma UK in Steve's memory.

A very Special thanks to all the Clubs volunteers who gave up their time to assist in the running of the event.
