Another NSC National Champ
Congratulations to Chris Larr on becoming the 2008 Vareo national champion.
The Champs where held at Lee on Solent sailing club July 18- 20th in very brisk conditions with Saturday's sailing being lost to high wind. Conditions on Sunday were equally fresh but with the wind being slightly offshore, sailing was possible as boats could be launched. As the wind increased, the sailing became attritional with the number of competitors steadily reducing, but Chris held steady with two seconds and a fourth, which combined with his two firsts on Friday was sufficient to give him victory by one point over Alan Sign from Stokes Bay, and two points over Andy Temple from Broadstairs, last year's champion.
Richard Willows was eighth, and was second to Richard Kemp-Salt in the grand master section!
Dave Wade wins Fireball National Champs After many years of trying Dave Wade secured 1st place at the Fireball National Championships in Mounts Bay last week.
Tom Castle, also from Northampton won the 1st placed youth prize.
Local water supply is now OK Anglian Water has withdrawn the 'Boil Notice' - it is now OK to drink water from the tap. More information is available from Anglian Water. It is safe to sail or windsurf on Pitsford Water but the usual advice remains: Swimming isn't allowed - occasional capsize excepted! Don't drink water directly from the lake. When you come ashore, always wash and dry your hands before eating or drinking. After sailing - take a shower and rinse out all sailing clothes. This advice pre-dates the recent scare about cryptosporidium. Will takes the Club Champs!
